The idea for relining these clam
shell cases with lambskin come from me kept seeing the
old camel back clam Shell cases for Pince Nez eyeglasses
come in with natural white suede lambskin liners.
A few were still nice enough for
me to see they wasn't a liner stamped out like the
velour originals were. Someone had cut them out by hand,
and with dull scissors in a few cases. They looked good,
but you could tell they were hand made and not factory
stamped liners
The problem with the velour they
used in most of these old metal cases was that it held
moisture, and they mostly used a water based glue back
then. I almost always find lots of rust under the old
velour liners. All the rust has to be removed before a
new liner can be installed, meaning you can get some
labor involved with refurbishing. Then the hinge spring
has to be checked or replaced. Rust weakens spring
steel, and antique case hinge springs.
These Lambskin case liners are
fully painted with rubber cement, and should solve any
rust problem and spring wear...... Lambskin on Rubber
Protection!
These are what I call my
"Refurbished Cases", meaning they have very good to
pristine original covers still on them. All are cleaned,
spring checked, and relined......They are priced
depending on cover condition. |
